Egypt’s El-Dabaa Nuclear Project Enters Pivotal Stage

(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday described the establishment of the nation’s inaugural nuclear power facility as a long-held “dream that finally became a reality.”

He participated, together with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a virtual ceremony celebrating the placement of the reactor vessel for Egypt’s El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, an event also attended by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

During the ceremony, Putin emphasized that Russia values the Egyptian president’s continued commitment to advancing the initiative.

“We appreciate the close attention you consistently give not only to our flagship project in the field of peaceful atomic energy, but also to the overall expansion of diverse contacts with Russia,” he stated.

Putin highlighted that the El-Dabaa project has moved into a decisive new phase, noting that electricity output is expected to begin within a not-too-distant timeframe.

“With Russian participation, the construction of Egypt's first nuclear power plant is progressing successfully. Essentially, we are transitioning to a key stage of technological equipment for the facility, and soon it will be able to start generating electricity demanded by Egypt's growing economy,” he affirmed.

For his part, Sisi expressed gratitude to Russia for its role in building the El-Dabaa NPP, asserting that the plant will bolster national economic growth and help reduce energy expenses for the public.
